Lintuperheen pesässä kuoriutuu kolme poikasta, viimeisenä heistä varovainen Rauha. Metsän vilkas elämä äänineen pelottaa arkaa linnunpoikasta, joka ei millään uskalla lähteä lentoon sisarustensa tavoin.
Lopulta uteliaisuus elämää kohtaan voittaa pelon, ja Rauhakin saa huomata, että sen siivet kantavat. Tutustuttuaan ympäristöön se osaa iloita omista taidoistaan.
